Topic Areas and Categories

As a quick summary, Did You Know currently addresses topics under two main areas:

  • Biopharma, Biotechnology and Bioprocess
  • Remote Living and Working

Within each topic area, there are a number of basic categories posts fall into:

Biopharma, Biotechnology, and Bioprocess

All the blog posts within this topic area are based on the science, technology, history, best practices and regulatory side of biotechnology, biopharma and bioprocess.

The following categories exist within the biopharma topics:

BioreactorsBioreactors and fermentor vessels are the foundation of cellular-based biopharma. This category will go over the basics of bioreactors and review the history, present, and cutting edge changes.
Making Measurementsn bioprocess and biopharma, knowing what is going on within your cell culture or fermentation process is critical to being able to scale-up, scale-out, scale-down, or even to evaluate if your idea was a good one to begin with. Knowing what is going on within is critical to any future decisions.
Process Analytic Technology (PAT)Process analytical technology (PAT) has been defined by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as a mechanism to design, analyze, and control pharmaceutical manufacturing processes through the measurement of critical process parameters (CPP) which affect critical quality attributes (CQA). There is a lot that falls within this category, including history, theory, measuring methods, and new decisions made as biopharma and bioprocess continues to evolve.
Dissolved Carbon Dioxide (dCO2)Dissolved carbon dioxide (dCO2) is a well‐known critical parameter in bioprocesses due to its significant impact on cell metabolism and on product quality attributes. Processes run at small‐scale faces many challenges due to limited options for modular sensors for online monitoring and control.
Dissolved Oxygen (DO)Dissolved oxygen, or DO, is the amount of oxygen present in the solution. There are many factors that influence the amount of oxygen available in the dissolved format necessary for cellular uptake – including temperature, salinity, dissolved solids, atmospheric pressure, etc.
pH Measurements (pH)pH is considered a critical process parameter in bioprocess – used to measure the hydrogen ion activity within the process.
Cell ViabilityUnderstanding the number of cells found within a bioprocess – and knowing which are viable and which are dead is critical to predicting culture and fermentation behavior, yields, etc. Understanding the viability within a process can also lead to automation of feed, optimizing titer, or indicating a good harvest time.
Miscellaneous There are many topics within bioprocess, biopharma, and biotechnology that do not fall within the otherwise designated topics of this blog. This is where you can find all of those nuggets of information.

Remote Living and Working

Remote Living and Working is meant to address some of the changes that happened in 2020 due to the impact of COVID-19. The requirements of social distance, working from home, and quarantine have affected the way business is done and how it will be done in the future. New skills are required to be able to perform basic business functions – and after a year, these are not likely to go away even when the isolation impact of COVID fades.

The following categories exist within the the remote living and working topics:

All Things AudioMuch of the way we communicate in our day-to-day lives is built on the foundation of being able to hear each other clearly. As the world becomes more virtual or remote, it is important that people do not need to strain to listen to you during meetings. What you use to communicate is as important as how you speak and come across.
Personal BrandingWho do you want the world to see when they look at you? What impressions do you want to leave behind? Do you have a different side that you present at home versus work? How do you manage the many sides of you?
Time ManagementThere never seem to be enough hours in the day to get things done that seem important. How do you manage your time? How do you set priorities?
Video CommunicationAs a society, we are enamored with television, YouTube video, movies, and all things visual. Closed-captioning provides accessibility for those with hearing impairments, clear audio provides accessibility to those with visual impairments. The world of video calls, video messaging, and video meetings can share and borrow those same best practices to provide effective, accessible modes of communication in the remote world.
Video PlatformsHow do you stay in touch in a world where video communication is important? We will review and look at a range of different video communication platforms, consider pros and cons, limitations, and possibilities!
